Like it has done for the past decade, the Oklahoma Legislature recently killed a bill that would have required all nursing homes to have liability insurance. Senate Bill 1355 would have forced nursing home owners to purchase $250,000 of liability insurance that would have at least partially compensated nursing home residents who had been abused and neglected.
The nursing home owners swung into action and defeated this bill.
Most Oklahomans do not realize that there is no law that requires nursing homes to have liability insurance. Many times the only way to seek justice for a loved one who has been hurt in a nursing home is to sue the owners directly. Lloyd & Lloyd has years of experience holding nursing home owners accountable.
